Eight Coaching Inspired Questions to Recharge During the Holidays

We look so forward to having time off at the end of the year only to realize that we sometimes come back more tired than when we left.


Our work week is busy with meetings and deadlines and stress over getting things done and doing a good job.

A break in routine can be a nice start to reinvigorating us as long as the new routine is offering time to really rest and recharge.

What does this look like for you? As a coach, I would work with my coachees on ideas for them to plan and create moments of self care. I would ask these questions:

  1. What activities do you do that make you feel alive?

  2. What brings you the most joy?

  3. What things do you want to do during the holidays that you don’t get to do regularly?

  4. Who do you want to reconnect with and why (and what does this look like for you)?

  5. What help do you need to ensure that you can do some of the things you want to do?

  6. What part does reflection and or mindfulness play in your recharge time?

  7. What is fun or excites you?

  8. How will you know if you are meeting your goal or if you need to rework the plan?

In coaching, we help clients to build a plan. We are action-forward in our thinking so, so let me ask you this — what plan do you need to create for yourself to ensure you are getting what you need out of your holiday time?

Self care is not just about relaxing on the couch (although that is great too), but it is also about doing things that bring you joy, excite you and expand you. For me, learning a new game or exploring a new hiking trail create moments of peace. Getting away with my family on holiday makes me feel like the hard work I have done is all worth it. Cooking some traditional recipes that remind me of home brings a feeling of contentment.

Doing these things that I don’t usually have time for helps me to feel relaxed, invigorated, and fulfilled. My goal is to come back to work feeling like I a had a real break. That way, I will be rested and ready to take on some new challenges. No matter how passionate you are about what you do, taking a break and then coming back to it creates fresh eyes for creativity to soar and motivation to increase.
